The Chemistry Masters Study Program of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Diponegoro University (PSKJM-FSM Undip) is one of the study programs at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Diponegoro University. The establishment of PSKJM-FSM Undip began in 2011 by submitting a letter of application for the opening of a New Masters Study Program (S2) in Chemistry by FSM (at that time still FMIPA) to the Directorate General of Higher Education (Dirjen Dikti) with a letter from the Dean of the Faculty of MIPA No. 2232/UN7.3.8/AK/2011 sent through the Rector of Undip on August 10, 2011.
Furthermore, the Diponegoro University Senate led by Prof. Sudharto P. Hadi, MES, Ph.D conducted an in-depth study, especially related to the sustainability and operational implementation of the proposed study program. The results of this study decided that the Diponegoro University Senate fully supports the establishment of the Masters Level Chemistry Study Program (S2). Formally, this support was stated in the form of a Statement of Support from the University Senate No. 4789/UN7.P/DT/2011. Furthermore, the Undip Rector submitted a Letter of Application for the Opening of the Masters Level Chemistry Study Program (S2) FSM Undip to the Director General of Higher Education with letter No. 4787/UN7.P/DT/2011 dated August 24, 2011.
As a manifestation of the seriousness of the request, the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Dr. Muhammad Nur, DEA formed a Preparatory Committee for the Opening of the Masters Level Chemistry Study Program (S2) FSM with a letter of assignment No. 2754/UN/.3.8/AK/2012 dated October 4, 2012. This committee was chaired by Dr. Parsaoran Siahaan, MS and consisted of 8 people. Time continued to pass until on January 28, 2014 the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) Director General of Higher Education gave a mandate to Undip to organize a Masters Level Chemistry Study Program (S2) through a letter No. 66/E.E2/DT/2014 addressed to the Undip Rector. The letter from the Ministry of Education and Culture, Director General of Higher Education, was then replied by the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Undip by sending a letter No. 2811/UN7.3.8/AK/2014 dated September 18, 2014, which contained the willingness to accept and carry out the mandate to open a Masters Level Chemistry Study Program (S2). After going through a waiting period of 2 years, finally on April 14, 2016, the Decree of the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia No. 150/KPT/I/2016 was issued concerning the Opening of the Masters Level Chemistry Study Program-FSM Undip.
In general, the Undip PSKJM-FSM curriculum refers to the Circular Letter of the Directorate of Higher Education of the Ministry of National Education No. 232/U/2000 and updated by the Regulation of the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia No. 44 of 2015, namely the minimum curriculum load of the master’s degree (S2) is 40 credits. In this connection, the Undip PSKJM-FSM curriculum is set at a minimum of 41 credits. To complete 41 credits, students are required to complete lectures for 4 semesters. The Undip PSKJM-FSM curriculum consists of Course Units, Thesis (Research Assignment), Seminar, and Master’s Examination. The course unit consists of compulsory courses and elective courses with a total load of 31 credits. The Chemistry Master’s Research Assignment is divided into two stages, namely Research Assignment I and Research Assignment II, each of which has a load of 4 credits. Research Assignment I takes place in Semester III, including: Thesis Proposal, Thesis Proposal Seminar and Research. Research Assignment II takes place in Semester IV, including: Research, Thesis Writing, Thesis Progress Seminar and Writing a Scientific Work Draft (publication in National Journals or International Journals/Proceedings)
PSKJM-FSM Undip organizes two (2) areas of interest, namely:
(1) Bioorganic Chemistry,
(2) Chemistry of Inorganic Materials
Each area of interest includes one or two elective courses that are required for that area. Students who choose a particular area of interest are still permitted to take courses from other areas of interest.
